The Mississippi Humanities Council seeks nominations for its annual awards.

WHAT
The Mississippi Humanities Council solicits nominations for its annual Public Humanities Achievement Award, Humanities Scholar Award, and Chair’s Award.

The Humanities Scholar Award
honors a scholar in a traditional humanities field who has participated in MHC programs, serving as an interpreter of his or her discipline to public audiences.

The Public Humanities Achievement Award
recognizes a person from the public sector who has supported MHC and its programs by writing proposals, directing projects, organizing and carrying outprograms, and donating time, energy, and/or money to MHC-supported projects.

The Chair’s Award
is presented to an individual, group, or institution for special achievements in the humanities. This award can recognize a program or project of extraordinary quality or an individual, institution or corporation that has made an outstanding contribution to support the public humanities.

AWARD
MHC will award $500 to recipients of the Public Humanities Achievement Award and the Humanities Scholar Award. Presentations will be made at the Annual Humanities Awards Banquet on February 07, 2003 in Jackson, Mississippi. Award recipients must be present at the awards ceremony.

ELIGIBILITY
Citizens of Mississippi who have supported awareness and appreciation of The Mississippi Humanities Council and the public humanities are eligible for nomination.

Humanities scholars are defined as persons connected with an institution of higher learning or research organization who are actively engaged in or retired from teaching, research, and writing in the fields of literature, history, philosophy, modern and classical languages, linguistics, archeology, jurisprudence, art history and criticism, ethics, comparative religion, and those disciplines of the social sciences employing historical or philosophical approaches.

MHC members and staff are not eligible for nomination.
