Having grown up in Baldwyn, MS, near Brice's Crossroads battlefied site, Edwina Carpenter has been involved in local heritage much of her life. She volunteered at the original battlefield museum on Highway 145, worked summers at the Natchez Trace headquarters in Tupelo and majored in history at the University of Mississippi. She has participated in local festivals and demonstrated spinning on a walking wheel. She has served as director of the new battlefield museum, which interprets the battle and General Nathan Bedford Forrest, for 12 years.
