HTA Lecture: “HaPPPiness,: Pedagogy, Pageantry, and Prison”

March 18 @ 12:30 pm - 2:30 pm

Virginia Miller-Durr will present the 2026 Humanities Teacher Award lecture for Hinds Community College titled “HaPPPiness,: Pedagogy, Pageantry, and Prison.”

From first-generation college learners and incarcerated students to communities and lives hungry for belonging and hope, the humanities cannot simply be explained; they must be lived through action in every stage in life. At a time when humanities programs are questioned, “HaPPPPPPiness” is a talk that exemplifies how they save, steady, and shape lives through Pedagogy, Prison, Place, People, Purpose, Promise, not PERFECTION.

The lecture will take place on Hinds Community College’s Raymond campus on March 18, 2026, at 12:45 p.m.
