MHC General Grants are accepted on a rolling basis and must be received at least four weeks before the funding project begins. Prior to submitting any grant application, contact Assistant Director Carol Andersen to discuss your project. We are happy to review drafts if they are submitted at least a week before the deadline.
Organizations seeking MHC funds are required to provide a Unique Entity ID (UEI). Obtaining a UEI is FREE; any website or organization demanding payment to obtain a UEI is a scam. Use the guide linked below to ensure you are on the correct government website. Note that organizations are NOT required to register for SAM. View this guide for assistance in obtaining your UEI.
Because the National Endowment for the Humanities has decided to release less than 50% of the funds Congress appropriated for state humanities councils for 2026, amounting to an over $550,000 cut for Mississippi alone, MHC has made the difficult but necessary decision to cancel our May 1 regular grant deadline. Due to this drastic decrease in federal funding, we are currently only able to offer:
- Minigrants (up to $2,500)
- State-Funded Oral Histories Grants (up to $5,000)
